2016 had its ups and downs, but there was never a shortage of awesome deals and freebies — Slickdeals’ front page hosted almost 19,000 low- or no-cost opportunities found and voted on by our talented and passionate community.
Here’s a list of the top five most popular deals of the past year:
1.) Free 2GB Google Drive Storage
As a reward for completing a simple account security check up, the
search engine giant ad-delivery system added an extra 2GB of storage to the standard 15GB that comes free with every Google account. Pretty nifty for a few seconds of work. But if 17GB of cloud storage isn’t enough, Google is currently offering a discount on their annual plan, starting at $19.99 per year for 100GB.
2.) $10 Starbucks eGift Card with Additional $10 Bonus
Essentially a BOGO deal, Starbucks gave out a one-time $10 bonus for anyone who bought a $10 gift card and used Visa Checkout as a payment method. Few things can beat a couple cups of free coffee! And with 2,000+ thumbs up votes and 1,700+ comments, I think it’s safe to say that everyone else agrees with this statement too.
3.) $10 Amazon Credit for MasterCard Users
This MasterCard/Amazon 1-Click promotion had a limited supply of $10 credits, but Amazon automatically honored all redemption requests even after the predetermined quantity was exhausted. Thanks for being so cool, Amazon! Now if you could only make your Prime Day offerings a little more exciting…
4.) Asus Wireless Dual-Band Router via T-Mobile
What?! A physical product that cost actual money made this list? At $59, this router is a great solution to enable easy Wi-Fi calling or extend your current network’s range. Solid user reviews and a deep discount pushed this to the front page in no time.
5.) “The Croods” Free HD Movie from Amazon Video
Technically, the fifth most popular deal was another $10 bonus credit from Starbucks — seriously, set a deal alert because this offer constantly pops up — so we’re skipping to the next most popular item with 1,667 thumbs up votes: a free digital copy of “The Croods” from Amazon Video. It’s a great movie for the kiddos or a cheap night in. Either way, we love freebies.
