Don't forget to use either Citi points ($15 off of $60) or AMEX points (20% off).
Free alternative:

Tax companies are known to lobby to make filing taxes a pain. Most people do not have particularly complex tax needs, and 70% of people in the US qualify for free tax preparation based on income. Below are some resources to avoid spending too much on your tax preparation. Feel free to copy/paste this info wherever relevant.

If you make less than $66,000 in Adjusted Gross Income you qualify for free tax preparation (looks like it's going to be $69,000 for the 2019 tax year).

The non-profit The United Way offers free tax preparation using H&R Block Deluxe. This allows you to file your Federal returns and create up to 3 state returns for free. The Deluxe version is a step up from H&R Block's most basic "free" offering. Check it out here:
https://www.myfreetaxes.com

Note: While you can produce your state return for free, you may not be able to e-file for free. If that is the case, you can certainly print and mail your return for the cost of postage. Many states also offer their own free e-file solutions. Here is some info on which states offer free e-filing:
https://www.mymoneyblog.com/free-...tates.html

Different H&R block versions for reference:

If for some reason you'd prefer not to use the United Way/H&R Block, the IRS has a list of free tax preparation websites here:
https://www.irs.gov/filing/free-f...s-for-free

If you need more assistance the IRS makes volunteers available to assist people in doing their returns through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, and they offer assistance to older adults through the Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) program. Find a location near you here:
https://www.irs.gov/individuals/f...volunteers

Many city and county office also have free tax preparation available to citizens at libraries and government offices throughout tax season. Check your local government website.

Do I really need Premier if I itemize, sold a few stocks, and have 1099-MISC income? I got Premier least year but not sure if it was actually necessary over the Deluxe.

I did all 3 of those last year and was just fine with Deluxe.

It's not necessary but definitely easier if you use Premier. It will automatically import all your stock information if you use Premier. With deLuxe you'll need to manually input all data.
I can enter the consolidated form numbers right? No need to input every sale/transaction?

Of course not, which is why all of you shouldn't be reposting the links in your posts. FFS! indeed.
Fair enough. I edited out the link.

None of you guys have any stocks or anything? I didn't realize deluxe was even worth buying since it's for basically an EZ form. I'm holding out for premier sale
The Deluxe imports DIV, Inter Income and Stock sales from banks and brokerages (at least those that partner with TurboTax), so no need for Premier.

That's wrong info you are sharing, Deluxe imports as well.

I have switched to H&R several years ago and paid $0-$20 for the equivalent of Deluxe+State which includes 5 Fed efiling. It can import TurboTax files and the questions and format are very similar. I did side-by-side comparison for a couple years when it was free. Then I never look back on TurboTax.

Deluxe is not for just for EZ form. If you can use EZ form, there are some free options.

It would be helpful to those pointing our lower prices to be specific that you are talking about the package of Deluxe plus one state that Amazon is offering. {i'm not saying your data point doesn't; I'm just suggesting it would be better to say for sure]

The $29.xx price is available right now at Costco.com, but does not include state.
It was part of Amazon's digital download day, also came with a $10 Amazon gift card.

Same here. I bailed on TurboTax after their fiasco a couple years ago, stuck with H&R Block TaxCut. But last year I felt FOMO so got a good deal on TurboTax and tried it again. Found out I wasn't missing anything, I found H&R Block software easier to use overall and results from both were the same refund. Will continue to save a few $$$ each year and stick with H&R Block Smilie

BTW, can pick up H&R Block Deluxe for $14.99 (w/o state) or $19.99 (w/state) and Premium for $27.50 - see this thread. https://slickdeals.net/f/13756250-newegg-50-off-h-r-block-tax-software-for-subscribers-with-code-emcuvvb28?src=SiteSearchV2_SearchBarV2Algo

For 2018 taxes, I bought both, H&R and TurboTax

I withdrew my spouse's partial ROTH IRA. I had multiple porting with several investment firms. With H&R, first I ported and downloaded, joint non-IRA, my IRA and Roth. When I ported on my spouse's account, I couldn't "deselect" the joint non-IRA account. Thus, I had hundreds of duplicate entries. I tried several times but unsuccessful and gave up. TurboTax had that option and I didn't have any duplicate entries.
