You obviously must hate 90 degree weather and gorgeous waters and sand...

Have gone the past 4 years, stayed in resorts and airbnb, once stayed in playa del carmen, rented car and visited tulum. Went outside the tourist zone during day time. Traveled on the local bus. Be smart, don't do stupid stuff, you will have an awesome time. The economy flourishes due to the tourists, they are not gonna jeopardize that.

Great price.
Check out the bundle deals with hotels. You can get a hotel room + flights for about the same price

Are there some instructions to describe Basic Economy as a "restricted-type" fare? Basic Economy is the most restrictive fare with no changes allowed. Before you buy, make sure everything is correct, including names and dates.

No but this kind of thinking gets us great airfares and hotel rates. I recommend the Royal Cancun all suites resorts. For the price of a hotel you get an all-inclusive apartment.

From the live cams, it looks like there's very little sargassum on the beach. Nice!

There are no restrictions on travel for U.S. government employees in Quintana Roo state, which include tourist areas in: Cancun, Cozumel, Isla Mujeres, Playa del Carmen, Tulum, and the Riviera Maya.

There is nothing scary about Cancun...
Just got back from there after 10 days in paradise
I'd go again if I could get there for this price, from Detroit
