Don't forget you only get a personal item, not a carry on. This is a laptop bag at best, they do verify before you board, and they will hit you with checked bag fees plus penalty fees if you have anything bigger. As such, unless you're only going for a couple of days, factor in another $60 for a checked bag.

Be sure to compare the price to American, which does allow a personal item and a full-size carry on with their basic economy.

Newark Airport in NJ is 17 miles from Times Square, NY.
I've been to LA, but never got the chance to visit San Francisco, due to the long drive. So I would be one who would want to go...

How about the two of you, where are you from?

If you're from LA, are you saying you've never been to San Francisco?

If you're from the East Coast, what state is better than Northern NJ / NY City area?

No one in the thread said they are from LA and never been to San Francisco, and how is that relevant to this flight?

Who am I asking? When I said "how about the two of you, where are you from?" I was asking the two people before my comment who implied that San Francisco and Northern New Jersey are two places no one one would go.

How is this relevant to this thread? First, I was making a point that a lot of New York City visitors pass through Newark as it's only 17 miles away (some people may not know that). And there are cheaper hotels in NJ versus staying in Manhattan. 2nd point, I was asking them "two", that besides the LA / SF / Las Vegas area in the West Coast and the Northern NJ / NY City area in the East Coast - I was asking which other States are "better" to visit

While you're right about the carry on, the personal item claim is BS. I have taken a fairly large backpack with clothes fully packed. There was no verification before boarding and you can just put it under the seat. It'll be a little crammed but only 4-5 hours of flight time. I think this is a good deal for $200

I just booked three round trip flights from SFO to EWR via Alaska Airlines for $590 for myself and two others. Here are the bag rules they emailed me.
Baggage

Carry-On baggage: On Alaska Airlines flights, each traveler is limited to one carry-on bag plus one personal item.
