I'm an REI member, but these sales are pretty lame. You filter for your favorite brands and size (medium or large for me). You see some good prices, but when you click on the item you discover that the larges and mediums aren't on sale and the good price is only for weird sizes like XXL or XS. Just a waste of time.
Its clearance items; its safe to assume its low stock items and if its popular the popular sizes will be taken. That is why you can filter by size, so you only look at stock of what actually fits you.

Right? I don't know how people can complain that they changed there return policy and that these clearance sales and the garage sales aren't as good as they used to be.

Buying things and returning them a week or so before the next garage sale, returning items that were used for 10 years saying 'bad durability' or 'don't fit' or 'there's a hole'. Big shocker REI can't support all that nonsense
Yup, same goes for Costco. The abuse of the returns policy of various retailers is what led to where we are at today.

I saw someone return very worn boots at rei and tell the CA that the boots were not comfortable anymore. It looks like they used them through several climbing expedition over the last several years...

The problem is even if you filter by size, if the particular item has both sale and non-sale items, the non-sale items in your size don't get filtered out appropriately and it shows up in your search even if your size isn't available in the clearance colorway.

Man, I used to take REI for a ride years ago. Some shady tactics + garage sale...all 100% legal I might add. Im not going to give out my secret since im sure there are others who have figured it out. Only part that sucked was lining up 3 hours early for the garage sale to open...in 20 degree weather.
It's not rocket science if you want to hold onto something untill they drop the price downm

The site is being managed by 3rd world children on a Spring network and can't handle the traffic. Be patient to see what isn't available.

I agree on the limited sizes, colors, etc. but when I received a notification from REI app there were far more choices available than I'm seeing now. So one has to act fast with such sales. I saw Topeak MTX DXP for $50 which is an awesome price and Thousand helmet 50% off, which is rare too.

I have a lifetime supply of salomon gtx boots, regular $230 at the time, $30/pair, and a couple pair of $160 north face ski pants that I picked up for $15/each. Cant make this stuff up. Good times! There are too many good deals I was able to swindle over the years...dont ask.
This is the second time you've posted just to brag about deals you've "swindled." What's the point? Are you waiting for someone to beg you for your "secret" (buy stuff at the garage sale, erase the silver X with acetone, then either sell them online or replace them under REI's old lifetime warranty policy?) Like...why? What do your posts have to add to this deal?

I would also add that actions like these (abusing loopholes and other benefits of a store) are perfectly legal, but ruin it for others in the long term. I would point to L.L.Bean when they decided to get rid of their lifetime return policy. Too many people were abusing that policy to a degree that the company couldn't afford to keep it.

Again, I'm not saying it's wrong in the point of the law by any means. I'm just saying that it's bad for the long-term of the store. I could eventually seem them getting rid of various benefits if too many people do this.

I'm not trying to start an arguement or anything though and I'm defintiely not telling people what to do.

I can't replicate it. Looking at Mens Clearance filtered for Large, clicked on 15 items and all were sale price for all colors in that size. I get what you are saying, but I have never run into that issue with REI or any other site we order from, and we never order clothing at full price. I guess all I can say is your frustration means more chances for us to find something, so thanks I guess?

Here's an example: Click link to clearance Men's: filter - brand: Arc'teryx, size: Large, Alpha SV jacket. All large sizes are full price. Discounted colorway is pilot and only available in XL.

Ugh, and those people make it kinda awkward for people to legitimately return stuff.

Although the dependency between their return policy and their price matching policy likely leads to shenanigans as well. They only have a 14 day price match gaurantee, so how many people see the price dropped $40 bux 20 days later and just return and rebuy a new one? I get not having a price match policy for 120 days or something, but 14 is pretty short if they are going to have one at all.

Slight chance that works. REI moves items for the garage sales among stores, making sure those with little inventory have something to offer. Also, ever look at the return tags for items in the sale? Often from long enough ago that it could have been in two previous sales. When garage sales were quarterly there may have been a better chance of getting this method to work.

This is why we can't have nice things. The few that abuse the system for the rest of us.
